Offering a pair of reverse hand painted on glass of Chinese Emperor and Empress portrait paintings, circa 1940s. These detailed and well executed paintings still retain their crisp vibrant colors. The gorgeous hand carved high gloss lacquered frames are a dark blackish-red color. We chose to leave the existing brown paper on the back "as is", which hides most of the wood, although in certain areas, the wood is visible and shows a reddish tint similar to rosewood or mahogany. The male figure on the left is intricately hand painted with fine line details and bright colors with Chinese motifs in the background. The female figure on the right is also intricately hand painted with bright colors with Chinese motifs in the background. EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION. I have seen several pairs of these over the years and none of them in this quality condition . Some minor scuffs to the frame, and some very very minor loss of paint on the female portrait is seen in the photos. The new owner will be very happy about the immaculate condition of these antique and painted reverse glass portraits.
