Serge Poliakoff, Untitled, 1956, Paper, Framed

Chairish

$7,016

Original 1956 abstract lithograph by Serge Poliakoff — a signed, numbered mid-century print in Poliakoff’s iconic palette of yellow, green, and blue, edition 175 220, beautifully framed. This large 1956 lithograph (57.5 × 75.5 cm) is a strong example of Serge Poliakoff’s mature postwar abstraction, created during one of the most important periods of his graphic oeuvre. The composition is constructed from interlocking colour fields in ochre, green, and ultramarine, colours closely associated with Poliakoff’s work of the mid-1950s. The artist’s subtle layering of translucent and opaque passages, paired with irregular yet harmonious geometries, gives the print its characteristic depth and measured rhythm. The work is signed in pencil lower right “Serge Poliakoff” and numbered 175 220 at the lower left, situating it within an authorised limited edition produced during Poliakoff’s peak years. The sheet retains its deckled edges and is set in a new walnut frame with museum-quality matting. Condition is excellent: the colours remain vivid, the paper stable, and the surface free of marks or restoration. As a leading figure of the École de Paris, Poliakoff’s 1950s prints are particularly sought after, valued for their rarity, quality of execution, and clear expression of his abstract vocabulary. A highly collectible 1956 Poliakoff lithograph with ideal scale, colour, and provenance.
