Artist - Isaac and George Cruikshank Title - Framed Prints from 'Tom and Jerry: Life in London 1821 Edition - probably a later edition Black painted wooden frame - each frame measures 9.25" x 11.25" Style - Georgian Condition - Very good - knock and paint loss to one of the frames (see photos) Provenance - England Isaac Robert Cruikshank (1789–1856) and George Cruikshank (1792–1878) were brothers and prominent illustrators, sons of caricaturist Isaac Cruikshank. They began their careers in political and social satire, gaining fame for their lively and humorous drawings. Both collaborated on Life in London (1821), illustrating the adventures of Tom, Jerry, and Logic in Regency-era London. This was a social satire that depicted both the extravagant lifestyles of the upper class and the gritty reality of the underworld. Isaac Robert was known for his theatrical and literary illustrations, while George went on to become one of the most influential illustrators of the 19th century, especially noted for his work with Charles Dickens and his later involvement in social reform through art.
