This beautiful set of prints are by Jacques Grasset de Saint Sauveur who was a French writer, diplomat, and illustrator born in Montreal, Canada. He is best remembered for authoring and publishing heavily illustrated books exploring the traditional clothing, culture, and habits of the world's populations. His most celebrated works feature beautifully colored, hand-tinted engravings produced in collaboration with the etcher Labrousse. "Encyclopédie des Voyages" (1796): A sweeping 5-volume encyclopedia detailing the customs, religion, and physical appearances of peoples worldwide, spanning everywhere from Europe and the Americas to Africa and Polynesia. Each of these prints is French matted with hand painted fillets, metallic marbled accent paper and gilt frames. Great for a gallery wall of a maximalist, world traveler or decerning designer.
