Stephen Csoka (American 1897 - 1989) Mid-Century oil painting on canvas of equestrian figures riding on horse back, circa 1950. Signed lower right. Artist framed in thin wood molding with white painted fillet. Measures 15 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 1 1/8". Good condition - shadow of the wood stretcher and small wrinkle upper left. Displays well. Stephen Csoka, Hungarian-born realist painter studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest before moving to the United States. Csoka taught art in New York for four decades, first at the Parsons School of Design, then Hunter College, City College, the National Academy of Design and, finally, at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Csoka's work is held in several public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Columbus Museum of Art , the Budapest Museum of Art, the British Museum and the Library of Congress.
