Antique print titled 'Ruins of the Palace of Darius, located in the old Persepolis, burned down by order of Alexander the Great (\.)'. Persepolis was sacked by the troops of Alexander the Great in 330 BC. Today, Persepolis remains one of the world's great archaeological sites. This print originates from 'Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indiën' by F. Valentijn. Artists and Engravers: François Valentijn (1666–1727), a missionary, worked at Amboina from 1684 to 1694 and 1705 to 1713 and traveled extensively in the VOC's lands.
