This vintage 1980s oil painting of a seascape by Luella Bitterlie depicts crashing waves against a rocky outcropping. The painting is in an impressionist style and is rendered in blues, greens, brown and white on a stretched canvas. It has volumetric brush strokes that create an energetic 3-D effect on the waves. It is signed “Luella Bitterlie” in the lower right corner and has her business card stapled to the back of the frame. Luella Bitterlie (1925-2002) was a landscape artist living and working in Bonita, California, near Rancho San Diego. The frame of the painting is wood painted in a blue green color with silvery buffing and an inner mat of linen fabric. The frame has a hanging wire on the back. The outer edges of the frame measure 25-1/8” by 21-1/4”. The exposed area of the painting is 19-1/2” by 15-1/2”.
