$495

Original print by Zdravko Dučmelić (Croatian-Argentine, 1923-1989), titled "Tres Rostros y un Poema de Alberto Girri" (Three Faces and a Poem by Alberto Girri). Pencil signed lower right; designated P/A (Prueba de Artista, artist's proof) lower left. The composition presents three stylized figural faces amid architectural grid forms in Dučmelić's signature surrealist-metaphysical manner, referencing the poetry of Alberto Girri (1919-1991), one of Argentina's foremost mid-century poets. Dučmelić studied painting in Zagreb, Rome, and Madrid (Real Academia de San Fernando), emigrated to Argentina in 1949, and served as director of the Escuela Superior de Artes at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (1963-1966). He is best known internationally as the preferred visual artist of Jorge Luis Borges, whose "Laberintos" he illustrated in 1983. His work has been exhibited in Japan, Cuba, Canada, China, and throughout Latin America, and is recorded in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Yale LUX database. Presented in a natural oak frame under glass. Frame 19 x 15 inches.
