A louis xv style clock by ferdinand barbedienne a louis xv style gilt bronze clock, beautifully chased and finely mercury gilded, made by the celebrated barbedienne atelier in paris. this late 19th century louis xv style clock by ferdinand barbedienne presents a richly sculpted rocaille case decorated with elegant leafed scrolls and shells, surmounted by a charming putto raising his right hand as if inviting the observer’s attention to the clock. The sides and lower portion are enriched with finely pierced gilt bronze mounts backed with red fabric, creating a refined decorative contrast. the clock rests on an elegant rocaille base that harmoniously completes the composition. The round enamel dial, signed “f. Barbedienne, à paris”, is painted with roman and arabic numerals and fitted with delicately patterned pierced hands. The movement is equipped with an anchor escapement and reed suspension and strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. the quality of the bronze casting, chasing and gilding is remarkable and fully representative of the very high standards achieved by the barbedienne atelier. The precision of the chasing, the richness of the gilding and the refinement of the sculptural modelling clearly reflect the exceptional level of craftsmanship that made barbedienne one of the most respected bronze founders of the nineteenth century. The clock displays the refined execution and artistic ambition typical of objects conceived for distinguished interiors, prestigious residences and important representative settings.
