An iconic set of three “Sigma” ceiling or wall lights designed by Sergio Mazza for Artemide in the 1960s, refined examples of Italian modernist lighting and among the most recognizable designs from Artemide’s early production. Each fixture is defined by its pure circular geometry and extraordinary molded pressed-glass diffuser, finely worked with a dense radial pattern. Once illuminated, the glass comes alive, transforming the light into a warm, atmospheric glow while creating a striking sunburst effect that changes subtly according to the viewing angle. The diffusers are embraced by elegant frames in nickel-plated brass, whose restrained presence enhances the purity of the circular silhouettes. Small cylindrical retaining pins punctuate each perimeter with precise industrial detail, becoming a distinctive visual signature and subtly revealing the construction of the fixtures. Behind the glass, an internal reflector maximizes and distributes the light efficiently, allowing the textured diffusers to produce a soft and enveloping illumination without glare. The Sigma was conceived as a versatile luminaire and can be installed either as a ceiling light or as a wall sconce. Presented as a set of three, the fixtures offer particularly strong decorative and architectural possibilities. They may be arranged in a linear composition, positioned rhythmically along a hallway, installed at different heights, or grouped together to create a sculptural constellation of light. Their compact yet sculptural proportions make them suitable for hallways, bedrooms, living areas, entrances, bathrooms, or hospitality interiors. Even when switched off, the trio reads as a refined composition of circular objects; once illuminated, the radial glass surfaces reveal the full depth and sophistication of Mazza’s design. All three examples are preserved in very good vintage condition. The molded pressed-glass diffusers remain well preserved, while the nickel-plated brass frames display an attractive age-related patina and light traces of use consistent with their history. A timeless and highly collectible set that perfectly reflects Sergio Mazza’s ability to combine technical precision, elegant materials, and atmospheric light. The fixtures are preserved in very good vintage condition, with beautiful age-related patina to the nickel-plated brass and only minor signs of use consistent with their age.
