Mahogany Chippendale type side chair, circa 1760. The arched pierced horizontal splats each have rosette style openings and feather-like carvings. The crest terminates in well-carved spiral pinwheels and each rests on a molded style. The seat features a recent correct style damask cover within a traditional trapezoidal framework, supported by square legs and held with H stretchers. Even more desirable because of its old well preserved finish, I would venture to say that this is quite likely an American chair. American furniture seems to demonstrate more verticality overall than their British cousins.
