This large display cabinet is in a style unique to Qinghai province in western China and dates to the late 1800s. It has an open shelf section above with a carved frame and a storage section below. Originally only the central doors would have been fitted, giving access to the full space inside, a design to deter would-be thieves from reaching the outer parts of the interior. Two extra doors have been added more recently using the old fixed panels, and fitted with simple brass handles. It still has its old hardware, black lacquer and beautiful paintings of flowers and butterflies and it is rare now to find cabinets like this is such excellent, and original condition. Make this a statement piece in a hallway, reception room or large dining room.
