This 18th Century English Oak Joint Stool dates back to the 1700's. The piece is crafted with pegged mortise and tenon joints and features a single plank top resting above a beautifully hand-carved lunette (demi-lune) arcading motif filled apron with fan-like radials that are characteristic of the early English vernacular design. Resting on four baluster-turned legs, each leg is anchored near the base by a peripheral box stretcher to ensure maximum stability. These types of stools were originally meant as everyday seating, today they are frequently repurposed as small side tables and lamp stands.
