This elegant, antique fruitwood cassone was crafted in Italy, circa 1830. Standing on five scrolled feet over a scalloped apron, the base of the stately trunk is decorated with a figure on either side, and the facade panel features a foliage gilt medallion in the center. The top has a large rectangular tilt-top surface. Both sides are embellished with beautiful carved, geometric decor. A heavy iron handle is on either side of the furniture making it easy to move and carry. The blanket chest is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a beautiful, rich walnut patina. This cabinet would make a Classic, useful addition at the end of a bed in a master bedroom suite, and could even be used as a bench seat. "Cassones" were often made as a marriage gift, and serve a variety of decorative and storage purposes. Perfect for storage or used in a hallway. Measures: 59." W x 19.75" D x 21" H.
