Very pretty blanket chest on wheels for an Indonesian merchant from the end of the 19th century, from Madura. The hand-painted and carved facade features superb plant and floral motifs. Created in Madura, off the northeast coast of Java, in the late 19th century, this merchant's chest attracts attention with its polychrome facade composed of an abundance of red, green and yellow designs. The rectangular lid opens to reveal a deep interior flanked by a wooden box, while the whole thing sits on four wheels. The chest has 2 wrought iron handles. The fittings are wrought iron. Superb chest, very decorative which will give the decoration a touch of Indonesian history. Indonesia, Madura Island - Late 19th
