Legendary Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn once said about making motion pictures, “If you want to send a message, use Western Union.” However, it’s likely that artist M.A. Calvin created this painting before movies to represent the biblical parable of the single lost lamb (adorable) which was found again, even if it meant leaving the remaining flock of 99 unattended. As if to underscore the point, the thirsty, shepherds (adorable putti with a cruciform staff) who found the wooly wanderer at water's edge, are being cheered on by rejoicing angels (more adorable putti). Any lost sheep in your life in need of messaging?
