Chinese Queen Mother of the West Scroll, colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering gold, grey and black, silk brocade in a dragon medallions pattern, signed, with numerous, varied, red seal marks and two inscriptions in black, xingshu script. The image size is 25.25" wide x 51.5" high. With a black silk makio and kakio at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll cover is heavy raw silk. Circa early Republic of China era, no later than mid century. A masterfully drawn depiction of a Taoist worshipping the seated Queen Mother of the West with two spiritual attendants, aloft in the heavenly clouds. The Taoist is standing on a riverbank beneath an overhanging cliff amid gnarled mountain pines, shrubs, trees and grasses, far above a temple, seen on the left below.
