Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a light and dark green and gold silk brocade in a dragon and fenghuang medallions lattice pattern, signed, with numerous red and black seal marks in various sizes and shapes. With a bronze silk makio and kakio at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll covering is raw silk in a light gold color. The image size is 25" wide x 50" high. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century. In the foreground, boulders dotted with bushes, grasses and bamboo fronds surround two weary travelers resting atop a rocky plateau that leans over a rushing stepped waterfall. Massive cliffs ascend on the right and support a large, gloriously gnarled, oak tree. The further steep riverbanks of the waterfall soar into forested peaks that march in the distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective.
