Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a light gold, floral silk brocade, signed, with a poem in Chinese caoshu script and six red seal marks. In the foreground a rocky palisade rises on the shore of a waterfall-fed lake, framed by gnarled pine branches and bushy habitats. A winding stair on the right side leads to a mountain hermitage amid a dense forest of pines, firs, shrubs and deciduous trees. The river feeding the waterfall leads back to cloud capped valleys and a plateau with another waterfall as lofty mountain peaks fade into the distance in unique Chinese aerial perspective. The image size is 26 3/16" wide x 52 3/8" high. With a black silk hanging cord and storage cord at the top and mottled purple jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll cover is a sky blue silk brocade of an intertwining soft meander pattern. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century.
