This fine 19th-century oil on canvas is signed with the monogram and dated "g.c. 1879" in the lower right, painted by the celebrated danish artist professor godfred christensen. The composition centres on a stand of tall beech trees, their lush canopy catching brilliant sunlight against a sky of soft blue and drifting clouds. The tree trunks are rendered with warm, ochre-toned brushstrokes where the light strikes the bark, set against rich, shadowed foliage worked in layered greens. a naturalistic foreground with wild vegetation leads the eye into the depths of the forest.
