Gordon Coutts, Early 20th Century Wooded Meadow Landscape Painting, Framed

Chairish

$12,950

Gordon Coutts (1865-1937) was a Scottish born California artist. Coutts was an artist known for his Impressionist and Tonalist painting styles as well as his diverse subjects ranging from North Africans scenes to California landscapes to nudes to Indian portraits. Coutts received classical art training in London and at the Academie Julian in Paris prior to teaching (1896-1899) at the Art Society of New South Wales in Melbourne, Australia. Due to health problems, Coutts spent his later years (1920s) divided between Tangiers and Palm Springs. This oil on canvas painting is a wonderful example of Gordon Coutts's works. It depicts a wooded meadow with various hues of green. The painting is an abnormally large size as the canvas is 44.5 x 34 inches (frame measures 48 x 38.5 x 2 inches). It is signed on the lower left. This painting comes from a family in Los Angeles that knew Coutts during his time in Palm Springs.
