A refined 19th-century lady's drop-leaf desk, attributed to the esteemed French ébéniste François Linke, exemplifies the refined Louis XVI style. This exquisite piece is crafted from rich rosewood, featuring intricate brass inlay and finely cast ormolu mounts. The rectangular top is adorned with geometric brass stringing, while one of the drop leaves showcases a central musical trophy motif, meticulously rendered in detailed brass inlay. The desk is supported by four tapering, fluted legs, each embellished with delicate ormolu mounts at the capitals and sabots, showcasing classical motifs. A gracefully curved stretcher connects the legs, centered by a circular rosewood medallion rimmed with brass, further accentuating its delicate design. A single drawer, also decorated with geometric brass inlay and a keyhole, offers practical storage. The overall design reflects the sophisticated aesthetic and superior craftsmanship characteristic of the Louis XVI period and the workshops of master cabinetmakers like Linke.
