Chinese mountain monkeys scroll, a freely drawn depiction of mountain forest monkeys in colored inks on silk, mounted on a shimmering, gold and blue, silk brocade in a floral vines pattern. The scroll is signed on the upper right side of the image in black, kaishu script with two, red, seal marks, with two, red, seal marks at the lower left of the image. The scroll has a tan cord makio and kakeo at the top and mahogany jikusaki at the bottom. The outer silk brocade, scroll cover is in a blue and ecru, floral vines over a wanzi lattice pattern. Circa Republic of China era, not later than mid century. The image size is 25.5" wide x 42.75" high. A masterful and finely detailed painting of s small troop of four monkeys relaxing and playing on the rocky outcrop, amid many flowering plants, grasses and bamboo, of the shores of a stepped waterfall and its rushing waters, underneath flowering, gnarled mountain trees and bamboo above.
