Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a light and dark gold silk brocade in a dragon and fenghuang medallions lattice pattern, signed, with a poem in caoshu script and numerous red and black seal marks in various sizes and shapes. With a glossy bronze silk makio and kakio at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll covering is the same silk brocade as the mounting. The image size is 25 1/4" wide x 49 3/4" high. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century. In the foreground is a winding stream with stepping stones and bouldered banks supporting groves of winter trees, pines, evergreen shrubs and grasses. The stream wends its way back to a cloud capped valley formed by the gentle slopes of massive rounded peaks and tors dotted with sparse habitat. Further mountain slopes climb into the heavens, fading to distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective.
